Glasgow 2023 World Cup Highlights

Between 6th and 13th August, the World Cycling Championships took place in Glasgow. Participants from all over the world put everything on the line in a week full of tears, emotion and overcoming challenges. The biggest cycling event of its kind features 13 World Championships across seven disciplines, and takes place in Glasgow, Scotland.

For the first time ever, the schedule now incorporates para-cycling competitions in a comprehensive manner, encompassing a range of events such as track, road, para-cycling track, para-cycling road, BMX, MTB, artistic cycling, Cycle-Ball, and Gran Fondo.

Sergio Mantecón, Roberto Bou and Meritxell Figueras were the three riders who represented the Spanish team in the XCM World Championship.

On Sunday, August 6th, the Glentress Forest witnessed the convergence of the Glasgow 2023 World Cup and the XCM World Championships. This captivating stage featured a remarkable 96.5 km trail, boasting an elevation gain of 3,200 meters. Within the Spanish contingent, Sergio Mantecón, Roberto Bou, and Meritxell Figueras stood as the trio of representatives. Roberto Bou finished 38th and Sergio Mantecón 17th after a hard ride in which a small mistake can change everything.

Meritxell Figueras finished 26th with a time of 5:52:35 in a race dominated from start to finish by the Austrian Mona Mitterwallner.

Mantecón stated the following words: "I've come back as far as I could, but in the World Championships, mistakes are costly. Even so, I gave it my all, and that's what's important".

Triumph for Paralympic athletes Mattias Schindler and Ricardo Ten

The Spanish rider Ricardo Ten, from Valencia, won 2 gold medals (scratch and omnium) and 1 bronze medal in the team sprint event.

With determination and a clear mind, Ten set out determined to dominate the scratch race from the start. From the moment the race started, the home-grown C1 rider took the initiative and led with a strong attack, to which only American Keith, German Senska and Malaysian Shaharuddin could respond. Ten's main competitors in the omnium, Britain's Ruddock and China's Liang, were left behind.

In this scenario, the Valencian cyclist only wanted to win. With an impressive acceleration with about fifteen laps to go, he managed to leave the German and the American behind, ensuring the title of champion in the scratch race and, consequently, in the omnium.

Mattias Schindler takes gold medal at Para-Cycling Worlds TT.  After an intense race, he managed to take the lead and win the race with an extraordinary result.

The German para-cyclists celebrate their next title at the World Championships in Glasgow. Matthias Schindler won his first gold medal in the individual time trial. Schindler, who has physical limitations due to an incomplete paraplegia, finished ahead of the British favourite Finlay Graham.

ROTOR supported Mattias Schindler throughout the race with its 2INpower power meter.

In addition, Maike Hausberger also won gold in the individual time trial on the road. Hausberger, who is normally much stronger on the road, had already surprisingly won gold in the scratch on the track. In the road competitions, the German para-cyclists have thus already claimed three victories. Yesterday, tricycle rider Maximilian Jäger won the T2 class.
