Specialized was born in 1974 when Mike Sinyard, after a trip to Europe, began to distribute around the bay of San Francisco road cycling components of the most prestigious Italian manufacturers, difficult to get in the United States until then.
In 1981, Specialized launched its Stumpjumper model, the first mass-produced mountain bike. Since then it has remained a benchmark in the cycling sector in all its disciplines, thanks to its philosophy of trying to create the best bicycles, components and possible accessories, always innovating and true to its motto: “Innovate or die”.
In 2005 Specialized exclusively presented its Body Geometry Fit system, which adjusts the bicycle to the cyclist taking into account its physical characteristics. This system of adjustment, developed in collaboration with Dr. Andy Pruitt, was endorsed from birth by the athletes of the brand, which since then also benefit from the entire line of Body Geometry products.
Currently, several teams of the elite of Road Cycling as the Saxo Bank in which Alberto Contador militates, the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step of Tom Boonen, Levi Leipheimer, Sylvain Chavanel and Tony Martin or the Astana of Alexander Vinokourov, use bicycles Specialized and actively participate in the development of new products. In the same way as the Specialized Factory Racing teams, with Sam Gaze, Jaroslav Kulhavy, Kate Kourtney etc. in Mountain Bike and the Monster Energy / Specialized with Troy Brosnam and Sam Hill in Descent.
