Team Spur

Proud ambassadors to one of the world’s biggest school-based cycling programmes”

Team Spur is a professional South African mountain bike team, sponsored by Spur Steak Ranches and Specialized Bicycles. The team features two full-time riders – Ariane Lüthi and Alan Hatherly. Ariane is a five-time Absa Cape Epic winner, and previous Swiss Marathon Mountain Bike Champion. Alan is an Olympian, and the reigning African and South African Cross-country Mountain Bike Champion. Both athletes are proud ambassadors of the Spur Schools Mountain Bike League and dedicate time to helping young African riders reach for their dreams.

In 2017 over 10 500 entrants from more than 400 schools across Southern Africa took part in cross-country races in the region as part of the Spur Schools Mountain Bike League. These are the riders Team Spur serves. In 2018 the League celebrates the 10-year anniversary of a truly impressive cycling development program, built from the ground up by its headline sponsor, Spur. The League now ranks as one of the biggest high school cycling series in the world, where boys and girls from 8 to 18 years old, get to share their passion for two-wheeled racing with one another
