Cyclism with Daryl Impey

A short bio of who you are and your career so far

A friendly South African living in Europe. I have been a professional cyclist since 2008 and have had the luxury of doing what I love as a job. Married and father of three boys.

Three greatest achievements in his career

  • Wearing the yellow jersey in the Tour de France for two days in 2013
  • Winning a stage in the Tour de France 2019
  • Winning a Tour Down Under in 2019 and 2019

To know more about Daryl Impey:

How did you start cycling?: My father used to be a cyclist, it just rubbed off on me. Initially I started out mountain biking before the road sucked me in.

What was the most important race you´ve done to date?: The Tour de France.

What is your pre-race ritual?: Don´t wear anything new.

What do you think about while cycling?: Family, goals and objectives and the stock market.

What is your go-to trainig meal?: Omelette on toast.

How do you recover after a tough race or training ride?: Crash on the couch with my wife and watch some TV or get the braai (BBQ) going.

Apart from endurance sports, what is your passion?: I really enjoy watching the stock market. But my big passion is my kids and family, spending time with them is precious.

What was the best piece of cycling advice you ever received?: Learn to sprint.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?: Work hard, be prepared to suffer. It isn´t easy racing a bike but it´s worth it.

What´s your favorite ROTOR component and why?: Power meter, I like the accurancy of it and how simple it connects to my other devices.

If you were not a cyclist, what would you have been?: Most probably something in the financial world.
